USU Again Designated as a Provider of PEKERTI and Applied Approach (AA) Training

Medan, October 13, 2026 – Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has once again been entrusted as one of the higher education institutions designated to provide the Training for the Improvement of Basic Instructional Skills (Pelatihan Peningkatan Keterampilan Dasar Teknik Instruksional / PEKERTI) and Applied Approach (AA). The designation reflects USU’s continued commitment to supporting the enhancement of lecturers’ competencies, professionalism, and learning quality in higher education.

The designation is stipulated in the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia No. 114/B/KPT/2026, issued on October 12, 2026, concerning Higher Education Institutions Authorized to Provide Training for the Improvement of Basic Instructional Skills (PEKERTI) and Applied Approach (AA).

Under the decree, Universitas Sumatera Utara is listed as number 67 among the 74 higher education institutions designated as training providers. The decree is valid for four years from the date of issuance.

USU Directorate of Human Resources Oversees PEKERTI and AA Implementation

The implementation of the PEKERTI and Applied Approach (AA) programs at Universitas Sumatera Utara is currently coordinated by the USU Directorate of Human Resources.

Through the implementation of these two training programs, the Directorate of Human Resources supports the development of lecturers’ capacities, particularly in strengthening basic instructional skills, developing learning strategies, and enhancing pedagogical competencies relevant to the needs of higher education.

The PEKERTI program focuses on strengthening lecturers’ basic skills in planning, implementing, and evaluating learning. Meanwhile, Applied Approach (AA) is aimed at developing lecturers’ abilities to apply and further improve the quality of instructional approaches.

Supporting Lecturer Professionalism and Certification

One of the important aspects of the decree is the recognition of the results of PEKERTI and AA training provided by designated higher education institutions.

As stipulated in the third provision of the decree, the results of PEKERTI and AA training are recognized as one of the requirements for participating in Educator Certification for Lecturers.

Therefore, the continued designation of USU as a provider of PEKERTI and AA training is significant in supporting the professional development of lecturers, both within USU and among participants from other higher education institutions who take part in the training.

Strengthening USU’s Commitment to Higher Education Quality

The renewed trust placed in Universitas Sumatera Utara provides momentum to further strengthen the institution’s role in developing human resources in higher education.

Through the Directorate of Human Resources, USU is committed to supporting the delivery of high-quality, structured training oriented toward enhancing lecturers’ competencies.

The continued implementation of the PEKERTI and AA programs is expected to make a tangible contribution to improving the quality of the learning process, developing educator professionalism, and strengthening the quality of higher education in Indonesia.

Trust continues, commitment grows stronger.
