Quality of Human Resource Management as a Strategic Factor in Enhancing Organizational Performance

Human resources are one of the key assets that sustain an organization. In the development of modern organizations, human resource management is no longer focused solely on personnel administration but has evolved into an organizational strategy oriented toward enhancing competence, productivity, innovation, and the achievement of shared goals.

A study conducted by lecturers from Universitas Sumatera Utara and published in the Jurnal Indonesia Sosial Teknologi (JIST) examined the relationship between the quality of human resource management and improvements in organizational performance. The study showed that effective human resource management is associated with increased organizational effectiveness and performance.

The quality of human resource management encompasses various aspects, ranging from human resource needs planning and competency development to performance management, rewards and recognition, and the creation of a work environment that supports employee growth.

In the context of higher education, human resource management plays an increasingly strategic role, as lecturers and educational staff are the primary drivers of the implementation of the tridharma of higher education. Strengthening competencies, career development, improving employee well-being, and implementing transparent performance management are essential components in building an excellent higher education institution.

Universitas Sumatera Utara, through the Directorate of Human Resources, continues to demonstrate its commitment to developing professional and sustainable human resource governance. Various competency development programs, performance evaluations, work culture enhancement initiatives, and improvements to personnel services form part of the strategy to support organizational transformation.

Effective human resource management not only produces competent employees but also creates an organizational environment that is capable of adapting to change. With an appropriate human resource management approach, higher education institutions can strengthen the quality of both academic and administrative services while increasing their contribution to society.
